Europe’s biggest biomedical laboratory, the Francis Crick Institute, has opened in London. The £650m building, behind St Pancras station and the British Library, will be home to 1,250 scientists.
SRL were employed by the main contractor, Laing O’Rourke, as acoustic consultants for the project. We provided the acoustic design support for the new building with our involvement starting at the end of 2012 and finishing 2016.
The major challenges on the project were:
- to review the services design to check for compliance with the strict noise and vibration criteria
- establish acoustic contractual requirements between various sub-contractors to achieve the overall acoustic requirement set by the client
- Inspect site to check installation
- Tested high performance auditorium acoustics.
