Supporting the Environment

At SRL, there are many ways in which we support the environment – through working towards and achieving international accreditations, implementing green practices and delivering services which support sustainable construction such as BREEAM.

Commitment

As a company we hold ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. These internationally recognised accreditations are an important part of our CSR strategy.

As a demonstration of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, we have recently signed up to the UK Business Climate Hub to support us in our journey towards Net Zero and are on track to achieving this ahead of the 2030 deadline.

At our Suffolk headquarters, we now have 150 solar panels located on an unshaded south-facing roof, each capable of producing 285W. Calculations show that these should generate approximately 42,500kWh of electricity each year, significantly offsetting the carbon we generate in the operation of our business.

In terms of transport initiatives, we have a fleet of electric cars with an employee purchase scheme on offer, as well as the provision of EV charging points. Our ‘Cycle to Work’ scheme is to encourage members of our team living locally to opt for this method of commuting and leave their vehicles behind.

 

Services

Our range of specialist services have sustainability top of the agenda, whether it’s helping clients with BREEAM assessments, or to achieve Energy carbon reduction or Net Zero. We also deliver practical approaches to resolve problems which are both cost-effective and focus on improving existing features rather than starting from scratch.

Green advice

Increasingly we are asked for ‘green acoustic advice’ which entails assessing the consequences of our solutions and the impact they will have on the environment. It includes considering such elements as plasterboard partitions, suspended ceilings, mechanical ventilation and acoustic quilts in terms of the carbon footprint of the materials and how sustainable they are, as well as the ‘in use’ impact when they are installed and the building is operational.
