Can I say it was good working alongside Sam Finch last week. He was very diligent and professional in his tasks and determined to obtain tests wherever possible.

I just wanted to thank Richard Budd for his great counsel over the years we have been working together. Richard has helped us with some really complex issues on the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, particularly due to the acoustic performance issues arising from the structural remediation/impact to the atrium smoke extract system. He was great at helping achieve a compromise solution between the local authority and the Trust/project team. We could not have got through the completion works without him.

In my role as a site construction manager/ package manager at Brighton 3Ts hospital, I was very pleased to have Richard Budd and the SRL team involved on the project. Richard demonstrated the value of a frequent and regular site presence in achieving the acoustic performance required for the project. His input enabled us to accommodate pragmatic acoustic solutions in an acute hospital design and installation environment where there many other significant and competing demands, all of which must be achieved.  Having SRL’s presence on site not only helped members of our own team understand acoustic fundamentals it also helped our subcontractors to be involved and understand this too.  SRL carried out frequent onsite checks and tests during the build scheme to ensure compliance and details were being followed from the start, this for me is key to ensuring a project doesn’t go too far in before highlighting major acoustic concerns/issues.  Richard explained acoustic risks alongside ideal solutions and enabled us to determine the best course of action, and lead to the acoustic objectives for the project being demonstrated as achieved.

Richard is held in high regard by my colleagues in design roles who he worked closely with during the earliest stages of the project. There were significant and unusual acoustic challenges which he supported the design team to resolve. These included the noise impact to patients of the helipad construction and operation on an existing tower building, the acoustic environment within a large 3 storey entrance atrium, and a retrofit of noise control to the generator hall after the orientation intended noise control packages were omitted from the scheme.

I look forward to working with Richard and his team on phase 2 at Brighton in the near future.  Their knowledge and professionalism are outstanding.

Thanks also for producing a very well-referenced and presented audit. I reviewed the first submissions and could see that it was very detailed, clear, and included well-reasoned justifications for the targeted credits. I wish more assessments could be like this.

SRL helped us to successfully manage the noise and vibration impact of our flood defence works along the River Hull, which involved significant piling close to residential properties and sensitive industrial assets. They assisted our liaison with the Environmental Health department of Hull City Council and, through providing noise predictions, making on-site measurements, and initially obtaining Section 61 consent, helped build confidence with local stakeholders that we were implementing Best Practicable Means in delivering the works. SRL’s support enabled marine piling to continue into the evening when necessary due to tidal conditions, which reduced the risk of having to deviate from programme.

Due to its location, together with the constraints brought about by the nature of surrounding businesses and structures, Travelodge Docklands was a fairly complex project to deliver. As well as supporting the project with the more standard air permeability, air quality and thermographic testing services demanded by BREEAM which often goes under the radar, the breadth of knowledge within the wider SRL team meant that they were able to provide more tailored support for other technical challenges which became apparent. For example, the selection of acoustic bedroom doors critical to the end user by carrying out detailed and specific lab tests. Also carrying out in-situ reviews of critical interface details ahead of the final acoustic testing of the building required to validate the acoustic properties of the structure and internal fit-out. Looking back, it can be demonstrated that the early engagement of SRL at Travelodge Docklands was critical to the ultimate success of the project. That said, technical ability alone is not the sole reason for SRL’s hugely valued contribution. The character of SRL’s team together with their attention to detail and their ability to gain trust and engage with the client, consultants and Sisk team was critical to this process and this should not be underestimated.

The level of service provided by SRL Technical Services Ltd throughout the scheme has been vital to the success of the project and delivering a high-quality product to our client. The Ditton Park project has been a huge success in the eyes of both Galliford Try and our client – who is absolutely delighted with their new school.
