ESOS Phase 3 Assessment for Price Bailey
Background
The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) was established in response to Article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive. ESOS is a UK-based mandatory energy assessment scheme for organizations that qualify as a “large undertaking.” Price Bailey LLP met the definition of a “large undertaking” as it employed over 250 people on the ESOS Phase 3 qualification date of 31 December 2022. This meant that all companies within Price Bailey Group Ltd were required to comply with ESOS. The Group comprises chartered accountants and business advisors, providing a wide variety of expert financial, tax, and strategic support to individuals and companies.
Price Bailey LLP acted as the “responsible undertaking” for the assessment, meaning it was responsible for submitting ESOS compliance to the Environment Agency.
Challenge
The Group occupied 8 trading offices at the time of the ESOS assessment and all of these fell within the scope. The initial challenge was to gather the relevant energy data for all of these offices and input it into our ESOS calculators to determine the Total Energy Consumption and Significant Energy Consumption (SEC) of the Group. There energy types that needed to be quantified included electricity and gas used for operating and heating their offices and petrol, diesel, liquid petroleum gas and electric used to fuel the vehicles their staff used for business purposes.
The next challenge was auditing the energy consumption that made up the SEC. This included in-person audits at 4 of the Group’s offices, as well as a desktop transport audit of the Group’s grey fleet to identify energy saving recommendations. A summary report for each audit was compiled to address the ESOS criteria.
Solution
We successfully completed the Price Bailey LLP ESOS Phase 3 assessment ahead of the revised deadline of 6 August 2024 which enabled them to submit their compliance to the Environment Agency, avoiding any penalties. We worked closely with the relevant people at Price Bailey LLP which meant the ESOS assessment ran smoothly.
