BREEAM case study

Green Ridge Primary Academy

Background

Green Ridge Primary Academy is a single storey Primary and Nursery School in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire . The academy is a two-form entry school and has the capacity for 60 children in each year group, however the site has been designed for three-form entry to meet future demand. The school was assessed under the BREEAM UK New Construction 2014 scheme.

Challenge

The development had to achieve a BREEAM “Very Good” rating. We were appointed by Kier to complete the BREEAM assessment for both the Design and Post Construction stages. We provided advice to the design and construction team on how to achieve the most cost effective and appropriate BREEAM credits.

Solution

We successfully worked with both the design team and contractor to meet their BREEAM targets by regularly providing an update through summary spreadsheet, SRL’s BREEAM tracker document. This gave a comprehensive list of outstanding evidence and the criteria that needed to be achieved for each BREEAM issue. We also provided letter templates for credits which eased the BREEAM process for the team because they could alter the templates to make them project specific, whilst effectively addressing the targeted credits.

Green Ridge Primary Academy went on to achieve a score of BREEAM “Very Good” for final certification, with a score of 56.10%.
