Monitoring case study

International Quarter, London

Background

Lendlease UK have been appointed to deliver the International Quarter London project located in East London at the gateway to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. This development is spread across multiple plots and will be used for a combination of commercial and residential spaces.

The estimated £2.736 million project is due to be completed 2031 and will offer 239,300 sqm of office space, 683 apartments and 8,400 sqm of retail.

Challenge

Environmental impact from the construction phase could be a cause for concern as the sites are surrounded by a combination of office, retail and residential properties. Our client was concerned that the noise, vibration and dust pollution could cause disturbance to these surrounding properties.

Solution

Our Environmental Monitoring department proposed locations to install noise, vibration and dust monitoring stations across site to monitor levels during the construction phase. These systems provide instant remote access to captured data as well as alerting in the instance of a threshold breach. The live access can be viewed through an online web portal managed and maintained by our environmental monitoring team. Live alerting was enabled for issue to site staff upon exceedance of a pre-agreed thresholds; allowing the team to investigate and prevent unnecessary disturbance.
