Year 7’s career-based activity called “What’s my job?”.

Yesterday, two members of SRL visited one of the local secondary schools (Thomas Gainsborough) to work with the Year 7’s for a career-based activity called “What’s my job?”. We had to go from class to class and the children got the opportunity to ask questions to try and find out what SRL does. We were among a few local business men and women with ‘unusual’ jobs, including a drag artist, magician, an architect, a work coach, a tackler, a fire officer and a physiotherapist. The children had around 10-15 minutes to guess what SRL does and then we got the opportunity to explain how to get into that career and what skills were important. The children, aged between 11 and 12, asked some really great questions, not only to find out what we did but also after guessing (with the help of some props including the tapping machine, a speaker, some ear defenders and a sound level meter), asked some really insightful questions about what we liked about our job and what subjects they would need to be interested in, to follow that career path.
