Noise Emission Laboratory

How much noise a product generates can be a key safety factor and often also a differentiator of its perceived quality. Whether the product is potentially hazardous to a person’s hearing, or when trying to develop a product to be as quiet as possible, having reliable sound power results can be vital.

How much noise a person will be exposed to when using a piece of equipment, how much of an impact an appliance will have on the occupants of a building or simply how much noise a product will generate should all be tested for.

This sound data is paramount when considering health and safety of equipment users for industrial machinery and plant equipment.

Measuring sound levels at source is an effective way to demonstrate your products meet the required regulations, both at the development stage and for final product approval.

We can measure all types of machinery, equipment and appliances, in both our indoor reverberation chamber and external large test area to BS EN ISO 3744:1995 standard. We can even come to your site and test equipment too difficult or expensive to transport.

FAQs

Q.

What is sound emission – acoustic emission testing?

A.

Sound emission testing measures the amount of noise or sound generated by a product, equipment or machinery. It ensures that sound levels meet standards and/or user expectations.

Q.

Why is sound emission testing necessary?

A.

Customers may need to ensure their products meet regulatory requirements, reduce noise pollution and enhance user comfort and workplace safety.

Q.

What standards or regulations apply to sound emission testing?

A.

Each product is unique, so we tailor any testing to suit the product and customer, agreeing on the specific standards required.

Q.

What types of products require sound emission testing?

A.

Common products we test are lawnmowers and garden equipment, generators, hydraulic power packs, heating and cooling units, heavy machinery and construction equipment, most of which are under the Noise Directive. Essentially if you have a product which emits sound, we can test it.

Q.

How long does sound emission testing take?

A.

The duration of testing can vary depending on the complexity of the product. We will always discuss and outline clearly how long you would need with us to collect the necessary results.

Q.

It’s difficult for us to send our products to your lab, can you help?

A.

If your samples are too large, fragile or expensive to send to a lab, or are already installed, we can bring our on-site testing lab equipment to your location.

I have worked with SRL via various companies over the last 12 years and always found them to be quick to respond, happy to help plus give a good testing AND reporting service at a reasonable cost compared to the rest in the general Test House sector. I would recommend SRL to be your independent third-party testing solution.
